Overall, this is a great product. This is the 3rd portable A/C brand (and 4th unit) I've bought in the last 6 years and my favorite of them all. My sister and I are Doctor Who fans and the first thing my sister said after I set it up was "Your new A/C look like a Dalek!" (which we love). But first, I should provide a little detail on the environment in which I have this A/C as this plays a huge part in how well a portable A/C works for you and therefore impacts the review.I live in the Mojave Desert, which means very high temperatures (we've had triple digit heat as high as 108° for the past 2-3 weeks) but relatively low humidity compared to most other reviewers. I'm writing this review at 7:30pm and the current humidity in my town is 14%. This means I never have to drain this A/C, but rather have to refill the water tank every 3 hours.First, because we all like pros and cons lists:Pros:- Attractive unit and looks so much better than my old Haier/Commercial Cool (10,000 BTU) which was big, ugly, and loud as hell.- Small size compared to other brands we've owned, which is important because our house is very small.- Quieter than all the other units we've owned in the past.- When the water reservoir is filled (important), it blasts very cold air.- The control panel (on top) is very nice with large indicators and rubber buttons which makes it easy to operate.- The remote control is also nicer than that of other brands we've owned.Cons:- In the kind of heat we have here, the air is not cold if the water reservoir is empty. As mentioned above, in our desert climate, I have to refill it every 3 hours or the air blows semi-warm.- The remote control doesn't seem to sync with the unit temperature if you change the temp manually. For example, if I use the remote control to change the temp to 79°, then later change it to 74° manually on the unit, the next time I want to use the remote and press the Temp Up button, it goes up to 80°. It's a bit of a hassle, but not a deal-breaker. You just have to be able to see or remember the temp on the unit when you start using the remote.- I wish it had a "Swing" mode to disperse the cool air more evenly throughout the room. That's it for my cons. The only real problem for me right now is because I work at home and mostly nights, I normally sleep during the day when it's hottest (nights here are in the 60s and 70s.) Due to the dryness here, the water tank is completely emptied within a couple of hours of my falling asleep. I woke up sweating at noon today (went to sleep at 10am) and had to get up refill water tank because my room was too hot.We had a high of 103° today and I woke up at 4pm to find my room at 93° because circuit breaker had tripped, probably due to how hard the unit had to work to keep cool after the water reservoir emptied. But I can live with it as the summer is almost over and I'll just try to change my work schedule next summer so that I'm sleeping more at night and early morning instead of in the noon and afternoon.Overall, I love this A/C and would definitely consider buying this brand again (possibly the model with heat) for other rooms of our house when it's time to replace the other units. Before I begin the review, I just want to say usually I do not take the time to review anything unless I really am very, VERY pleased. So, with that information in mind:I live in a small studio (about 470 sqft) in a major city on the east coast. My building is old, and apparently (according to the Super) the air conditioning does not turn on until the first of June (go figure). Well, that's all fine and dandy until we had a heat wave with one night (yes, NIGHT) in the mid/high 80's this spring. I tried to grin and bear it for a couple of nights, but when I woke in a sweat with a heat rash, I knew I couldn't take any more nights like that. So, needless to say, after calling my Dad for advice and searching through the internet looking for an answer to my dilemma I finally decided that Amazon was the way to go. Living in a city is nice, but most don't realize how hard it really is to get things in and out of an apartment in a large city...especially something like this. I read many, MANY reviews and finally realized that there was no real "perfect" portable air conditioner (I have sliding windows, so no traditional window unit for me). I went with this unit, swallowed the price tag (the cheapest of the 14000 btu with a fairly good rating), and paid the extra $4 in shipping so I wouldn't have to sleep another night in the heat. So, that was yesterday, and it arrived today. I was able to push the box right to my front door and lift it out of the box with moderate effort (nothing like a good work out). One negative I have about this is the directions are super vague and you really have to figure it out for yourself somewhat. I was determined, though, to get that thing set up ASAP. It took me about an hour from start to finish (unpacking the box to plugging it in). WITHIN 20 TO 30 MINS OF HAVING IT PLUGGED IN, THE TEMP WENT FROM 85 TO 77. I call this a HUGE improvement. It has been running for about an hour and a half now on high and it is feeling SO much better. Yes, the unit is fairly loud, but I am used to sleeping with a HEPA air purifier on high, so the noise to me is no different. Sleep mode is a bit quieter, but honestly I look at the noise as a small price to pay. If it's hot, then you just got to put on your big boy or girl panties and get used to the noise. The cool will be worth it. Now, be advised that I literally JUST installed this unit TODAY. If there are any problems I will edit this to give all of you better information.Hopefully this helps someone in need who, like me, is desperate. Happy cooling!!!I did like this portable conditioner, but I returned it because it did not cool our master bedroom very well. Smaller rooms it did just fine in, and the water tank was a big positive to save energy. However the water tank does need to be filled about every 2 hours so hooking it up to continuous water would be a better option. Overall it functions like a 10,000 or 12,000 btu so it's a bit overpriced for its cooling ability. The energy saving water tank may override that con for some people since many portable ac's use more electricity.I live in LA and as long as I keep the water container full - there is not enough humidity to not use it - it will blow you out of the room!!! Those of you have not been able to get it to cool below a certain temp - probably need to fill the water container to maximize the efficiency of the unit. It cools my entire 1 bedroom apartment minus the actual bedroom which I close off. (I have a smaller unit for in there)If you live in a humid climate like in Southeastern US states - VA, NC, SC, Georgia, Florida - water container probably not needed. If you live in arid climate - Texas, NM, Arizona, Southern California - you will most likely need to use it.It beats my last unit hands down and that was a Honeywell .....
